Why is gimp 2.8 so slow

All of these questions can give you important clues about the source of your slow loading speed, but the first one is usually enough to provide the right answer. A wide-ranging collection is nice, but it can have some unintended consequences. Take all the plugin files from your GIMP plugins directory, and move them into a different folder on your desktop or somewhere easily accessible.

Next, create some new subfolders and divide your plugins based on whatever criteria you want — usage, features, or anything else. The right pane will update with the list of folders that GIMP checks on startup. Click the small plus icon labeled Add new folder to add a path manually, or click the open folder button to browse for the location.

Brushes and patterns are some of the most memory-intensive assets that GIMP loads at startup, so having too many of these active at once might cause slowdowns. The same solution that works above for plugins can be used for brushes and patterns.

These dedicated font managers let you enable and disable the fonts installed on your computer, without having to delete them or remove them. They also usually have advanced sorting tools to help you find the fonts that you want to have available for use in GIMP and other apps.

This was a big issue with GIMP 2. On XP [different computer], it loads in less than 3 seconds. On Vista, it takes 20 seconds:. It just freezes at extension-script-fu. It gets stuck for about 18 seconds, and then starts working again. Then, the actual GIMP program pops up […finally]. I have the latest stable version running I think.

EDIT 2: One way would be to disable script-fu. Does anyone know how to disable it at startup? Is it possible? Would GIMP still work? GIMP Version: 2. The first is that every time I start up Gimp it searches for the fonts. I have tried putting the directories in the various standard locations that I have always used before, but I still get the same results.

The other issues is that when I close the program it takes about 15 seconds for the program to fully close.

If anyone has a suggestion of what I might be doing wrong, I would really appreciate it. Re: Slow load times on Windows This sometimes fixes such issues. Also, reduce your number of brushes, especially large file size ones to a minimum.

Thanks for the advice, but I still had the same results What I ended up doing was completely wiping gimp from my computer and I downloaded the older 2.
